Oekaki Admins: Spaz, ez_jasmine, Bad Karma

The Side 7 Oekaki has, for most intents and purposes, died. We have a few people still using it, but it's no longer the thriving community it initially started out as. The moderators in charge of it have moved on to other projects, and Bad Karma does not have the time to keep up with it. Additionally, most everyone has moved on to other sites and projects.

So, I'm giving those remaining a chance to voice their opinions before a decision is made. Should the Oekaki be shut down? Before you jump up and yell "No!", know what this means.
  • If the Oekaki were to remain open:
    • We would need new, active, responsible people to take over as moderators.
    • We would require those people to come up with, and follow through on, ideas on how to improve and revive the oekaki.
    • We would being the process of investigating how to bring the Okaki into the site more directly, instead of being on a sub-domain. This will likely mean a removal of all existing oekaki accounts, and probably a loss of all currently posted images.
  • If the Oekaki were to be shut down:
    • We would give a month or two of time for people to save off any images they wanted.
    • The software, accounts, and creations would be removed from the server.
    • The sub-domain "oekaki.side7.com" would go away.
Please, if you have an opinion, make it known. E-mail Bad Karma at badkarma (at) side7 · com. Thank you.

Oekaki Rules:
  1. Observe Side 7's rules. Images that contain adult material, profanity, etc. should be marked as adult.

  2. No profanity in comments. Such postings are subject to deletion.

  3. If you spot inappropriate behaviour, contact an admin.

  4. No Spamming: Please spend at least 15 minutes on an image post. If you need to safety save, that's fine. Posting many images that show little effort or care is rude to the other oekaki members, and such posts are subject to deletion.

  5. Safety saves have to be complete before moving on to another image. This is to prevent the oekaki from being inundated with many unfinished images.

  6. Saftey saves must have more progress in 3 days, or they will be removed (contact an admin if you think you won't be able to continue working for more than 3 days so that we know you're still going to finish it).

  7. If you spot trolls, do not respond to them; contact an admin.

  8. Harassment of admins or other users, publicly or privately, will result in account and/or IP ban.

Ignore the time plz; I'm doodling at work between doing productive things.

My friend was doing Celtic-style henna tattoos for a bunch of us on St. Patrick's day. This is what she drew on the back of my hand, on the meaty part between my thumb and index-finger metacarpals. It's a pretty design, and I just wanted to preserve it in digital form before it fades from my skin. I was thinking it might make a neat guild seal in a fantast game or something like that, so here's a shiny golden version.

I like the idea of being able to save oekaki drawings directily into our galleries. Losing our existing oekaki accounts might suck a little, but it won't be so bad if oekaki is integrated into our regular accounts, and if all the existing oekaki images are archived soemwhere. And like I told BK earlier, I'd be more than willing to step in as a mod if he wants/needs me to.

I think this is pretty much finished.

The fringe-toed frilled dragon (Uma Draconis) is native to the deserts of southern New Mexico and southeatern Arizona. Unrealated to the frill-necked lizards of Australia and New Guinea, the fringe-toed frilled dragon grows to a length of 6-8 in and sports small, bat-like wings (wingspan: 7-9 in) that allow it to fly for short distances. This adaptation allows it to escape ground-based predators, such as snakes and roadrunners, but its poor manueverability in the air makes it more vulnerable to predation by hawks, falcons, and owls.

The dragon's wings and frill may be spread in an attempt to scare off predators, or as an effort to attract a mate. During mating season, males boast a red fringe on the trailing edges of their wings, frills, and waddles.

The dragon is not venomous, but like the Komodo dragon, its saliva harbors harmful bacteria that can cause painful but rarely lethal infections in its bites.

I think this might be finished, but that really just means I'm going to pick at it for another two weeks before I feel good about it. The timer is accurate; I was both mouse-drawing and being incredibly fussy, especially with getting the lineart nice and distinctive and a little bit heavy - trying to preserve the anime look at a tiny resolution.

So, this is Loxias, a character in a video game I'm making with some friends. I wanted to try my hand at sprite-drawing in ShiPainter because MS Paint and GIMP just weren't doing it for me. I'm pleased with the results, and Shi's tools seem to fit my purpose pretty well. You may see a bunch more sprite art from me here, in that case.

All art drawn by me © me; Loxias character design and concept © White Tiger Factory.

Finished, complete with more-accurate depictions of my pets' fur. I've always wondered what a cabbit made from a combination of my cat, Tofu, and my rabbit, Stew, would look like. Conclusion: Highly Adorable. >^.^<

But, you know, I probably shouldn't. It keeps me from working. ^^;

I think I might just call my icon / fursona Na'vi and get it over with. They're so much prettier than your run-of-the-mill blue cat people. Jewlery and markings are based on the concept for my eventual Halloween costume.

Meanwhile, sorry for the sketchiness; I drew this while sneaking my screen past bosses who kept peeking into my office, and on a computer that's trying pretty hard not to crash. Those ears are a whole new level of slap-dash and craptacular.

There are few things I love drawing more than a good cracked smile.

Navi1101 @ Tuesday, January 12th 2010, 3:07 PM

Glad you like, Froggy. ^^ Actually my work computer's faster tham most computers I've used; it just kind of went ZOMG JAVA TOO MANY INTERWEBS AUGH!

The smile approximates the face I made when I disovered I could oekaki at work. Glee!

Navi1101 @ Monday, February 22nd 2010, 4:42 PM

So... I *just now* (well, not *just* now, but like a couple days ago) realized how awkward a Na'vi fursona would be for me, because I've been using Navi as my screenname for years. "It's a Zelda/Lain reference, not an Avatar reference... despite the fat that I'm using an Avatar avatar... erm...." Yeah, that'd go over well. ^^;;

Hey guys. Didn't know what to draw for you, but I've had dragonflies on the brain lately, so that's what you're getting. ^^;

Just wanted to post something here to let you know I haven't abandoned the oekaki; my new-ish laptop (a Mac) just won't run any of the painting programs for some reason. I'm posting this from a computer in the library, actually. I may post some more pics in the future, if I have much more free time in places with oekaki-able computers, but for now, just know that I'm not dead.

Hm, about the art, right... I think my favorite part is the sense of space created by the shadows of the wings on the grass. That, and the fluffy little grass seeds came out exactly how I wanted them. ^^

You asked for it, KaioshinLuvr! ^^; I don't feel like I know either of these chars well enough to *write* anything, but a picture's worth a thousand words, right?

Safety save. Adulted for manful nekkidness. And I'll fix the paw-like hands when I'm feeling less lazy. You can peek if you really want to. *teasetease*

KaioshinLuvr @ Wednesday, May 14th 2008, 12:22 AM

Oh holy spork, I can't wait to see this! XD

Navi1101 @ Sunday, June 8th 2008, 5:38 PM

UPDATE: I'm not being lazy, I promise! I'm stealing a few minutes here on the PC at my parents' house; I just moved into a new apartment and won't be online 'til Tuesday, so since I can't get online at home and can't get to this site from work (it's blocked), it'll be at least Tuesday until this is finished. >-.-'< Sry.

KaioshinLuvr @ Thursday, June 19th 2008, 1:19 AM

Fiiiiiniiiiiish... pleeeeeeeeeease...

Navi1101 @ Wednesday, June 25th 2008, 1:54 PM

Actually... I think I'm gonna abandon this particular one because I don't like it much anymore. I can do better, and I will! Promise! But meanwhile, um, here, enjoy half-4553d nekkid lineart Kumaro! ^^;;;

Really sorry. The next/real/finished one will be a lot more winful, and a lot more suggestive.

Inspired by a cute cute CUTE little random beagle mutt that I just got to play catch with near my school's duck pond. ^^;

awwwwwww! it's so cute!
I would vote you as much less epic fail!!

You tried watercolors for the image! I wouldn't dare do that!

I have a ten-page paper due tomorrow and I haven't started it. I also have to prepare notes for a presentation, call some potential landlords, and set things up for a Japanese Club fundraiser. I'm going to take this opportunity to draw a stark and dreary still life instead.

KaioshinLuvr @ Tuesday, May 6th 2008, 1:39 AM

OUCH. *petpet* Don't let work eat too much of your soul! You can do it!

Navi1101 @ Tuesday, May 6th 2008, 12:58 PM

*pant pant* The worst is over; I turned in my paper and did my presentation just an hour ago. >-.-'< Finished that paper 2 hours ago, I did... need muffin... *eats muffin* >^,^<

Navi1101 @ Thursday, May 8th 2008, 6:20 PM

My presentations are done, my papers are done, I'm caught up on my homework, the Japanese Club is having one last ballyhoo of a fundraiser, and I think I've picked out an apartment! Only two finals left! YAY! XD Oh, and thanks for all the love on the piccy, btw.
